Is it possible to screen, web, or data scrape from library collections and e-resources?

Answer

Most our licensing agreements for our online electronic resources do not allow text and data mining software. This includes the use of robots, spiders, crawlers, or other automated downloading programs, algorithms, or devices to continuously and automatically search, scrape, extract, or index data or metadata.

Those engaging in such activities will be in violation of the University's agreements and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). Their access to the resources will be disabled as well as campus-wide access to the resource for a duration.

If you are a current student, faculty, or staff working on a scholarly research project which necessitates massive data gathering or content mining, please refer to the library's text and data mining guide for more information.
