Can I request an e-book version of a book that the library only owns in print or does not own?

Answer

If the library does not own an e-book that you need, you can use Interlibrary Loan to request portions of a book to be delivered to your email electronically. Because of copyright restrictions, the Interlibrary Loan service can only provide portions of an ebook or print book scans. You can use the ILL service to request a chapter or two from a book that can be scanned for you.

For books published before the year 2000, you may be able to find a digitized copy of a book using the Internet Archive (archive.org). You will need to create a free account with the Internet Archive to access their digitized books.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is another option. UNC Charlotte students (including those that live outside of Mecklenburg County) can apply for a free library account online.
